D4 Advanced Media is a creative design group specializing in creating digital media and product development solutions for trendsetting businesses. We’ve assembled a team of industry-leading experts to create and develop digital marketing and product development strategies efforts for hundreds of businesses. We love what we do, we’re passionate about it and we have fun doing it; we think it’s the recipe for success.

John Dunlap

  • jobtitle: Founder | Design Director

John Dunlap, founded D4 in 2005 and brings more than 20 years of digital media design, product development, and Internet marketing experience to the company.

John is a trusted consultant for hundreds of businesses and organizations; overseeing the design and development of Internet marketing strategies, custom websites, web-based applications, and new product launches. His entrepreneurial endeavors have led to the creation of several successful business ventures, most notably in the shooting sports and retro video gaming industries. John is the driving force behind D4’s industry leading design and product development team.

John is a graduate of the University of Nevada, Reno where he earned a bachelor’s in international business and marketing. He is a board member of the Nevadaworks Workforce Development Council and a longstanding Board Member of the American Marketing Association (AMA) Reno-Tahoe Chapter. He resides in Reno, NV with his wife Courtney and their four children.

Outside of work John finds inspiration by spending time with his family, and volunteering in his church. Once the kids are in bed – you’ll find him restoring and maintaining a collection of vintage British cars, planning his next wild-game hunt, or learning a new skill.

Patrick A. Tarpey

  • jobtitle: Marketing Manager
Patrick got his start at a small print shop in Las Vegas, assisting with the marketing launch of the newly opened Treasure Island. He started building websites in the 90’s with TextPad and Dreamweaver while refining his Adobe skills. His big marketing opportunity came with Bulldog Hydraulics in 2005 with an Executive Vice President willing to take a chance on him. He remained with that company for 13 years until they closed the doors.

Patrick holds a Bachelor of Science degree and considers himself a Swiss Army Knife of marketing and design. His favorites are video and SEO, with a sprinkle of WordPress.

Happily married to Jenell in 2012, they share 3 wonderful daughters and 1 German Shepherd named Broomhilda Von Hammersmark.

Hobbies include Harley's, strength training, and grilling. He's notably afraid of the ocean and sharks. Jenell is a selachophile at heart. It's the perfect marriage.

Sonja Rasco

  • jobtitle: Office Administration

Sonja is our Office Administrator and resident superhero. She brings strength, structure, and warmth to our office and clients. Her extensive knowledge base includes 16 years of clerical experience and a business certification with a background in collections, data entry, and small claims processing. She is an administrative expert and continues her education in human resources and employment placement.

Her skills are masterclass in customer service, accounts receivable and internal reporting. Her husband and three children are her foundation, motivation, and heart. I think we’d all agree that Sonja’s caring, protective and loving personality creates a motherly persona for all of us here in the office.

Beyond her dedication to work, Sonja enjoys making memories with her family, reading a good book, and adding new items to her growing marvel collection.

Garrett Giardina

  • jobtitle: Sales & Operations Team Lead
Garrett is the Sales & Operations Team Lead to our Special Project’s Team. As a curator and operation’s associate, he brings a keen sense of detail and strong research skills to D4. Garrett has over 15 years of experience in customer service and spent time working as a real estate investor and in property management. He advances D4’s special projects down our path of continual growth. 

Outside of the office, Garrett loves spending time with his family, embarking on new home improvement projects, taking a trip up the mountains to snowboard, and exploring OHV trails in his Polaris Razor. He also enjoys disc golf and annihilating his colleague, Will Marquette, in a sweltering match of ping-pong.

If you find Garrett running out of the room in fear, there must be a black widow near.

Joriel Alves

  • jobtitle: Web Developer
Joriel is one of our web developers at D4 Advanced Media. Realizing his strong passion for programming, he traveled from the island of Guam to the deserts of Nevada to study at the University of Nevada, Reno. Joriel holds a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science & Engineering. Since his arrival to Nevada, he has been in search of the tastiest burger around.

Joriel's extensive development skills derive from creative passions for gaming. He’s created websites for events, including those for games he developed. No matter the challenge, Joriel ensures his audience has a unique experience by creating custom software and graphics for his events, including livestreams, games, and videos.

Joriel is known for creating Super Ledgehop: Double Laser, a quirky game he published on Steam with a group called “LAME Dimension”. His homemade games have been praised by multiple gaming websites, such as IGN, to being a wonderful, yet silly experience.

Joriel is also known as a power player in the competitive fighting game scene, receiving Top 8 placements in notable tournaments like AnimEVO, and appearing in high profile speed running events to demonstrate how to complete games within minutes. He’s held the world record for multiple video games, such as Pringles for the Sega Genesis, and often showcases his progress by livestreaming on Twitch and uploading videos to YouTube.

Whip Villarreal

  • jobtitle: Creative Writer & Operations Associate

Whip is a Creative Writer and Operations Associate on D4's Special Projects Team. He graduated from the Reynolds School of Journalism at the University of Nevada, Reno. He considers himself an all-around media professional and has had his work published in the Los Angeles Times, New York Times, Las Vegas Review-Journal as well as regional magazines and newspapers throughout the Sierras and Northern Nevada.

Whip considers himself the “Jack of all trades and the master of few.” However, he has been told he is good at impersonations and making people laugh.

His hobbies include restoring his 1977 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham, traveling and when he’s not doing that, he enjoys spending his time with his family and friends. He is also a nerd for anything Batman related and considers himself an avid fan of film, cinema, and television.

He can be found getting his boogie on when music from the seventies is played, but he considers his theme song to be Strawberry Letter 23 by The Brothers Johnson.

Claire Dunlap

Claire works within our D4 Special Projects team ensuring D4 delivers an industry leading customer experience from start to finish. She's not satisfied until every client has a 5-star experience. Her background in Communication Studies, Hospitality Management and extensive International experience brings a unique perspective to D4 that keeps us competitive in the marketplace.

Claire loves passing time homesteading the three acres she lives on, mushroom foraging in the local forests, cooking tasty meals, and planning her next trip abroad.

J.P. Faulkner

  • jobtitle: Logistics and Operations Lead

J.P. is a Logistics and Operations Lead on D4's Special Projects Team. After graduating from Lassen High School in Susanville CA, JP attended the University of Oregon where he earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Human Physiology.

While earning his degree, he worked part-time at the local Cabela’s where he found and developed a greater appreciation for the outdoors and conservancy. After graduation, JP decided to move back to the Reno area to be closer to family and friends. He transferred to the local Cabela’s and was eventually promoted to a Lead position, which he maintained for 2 years until finding a better opportunity with the D4 team.

When not at work, you can find JP outdoors either hunting, golfing, shooting or just taking a hike with his girlfriend Ariel and dog Moose. JP has hunted big and small game in most of the western states and has been successful on most occasions. He made All-League on his golf team during high school and continues to make it out to a course 2 times a week.

When “Big Poppa” by the Notorious B.I.G comes on, J.P can be seen busting a move on the dance floor, for sure.

William Marquette

  • jobtitle: Marketing and Sales Specialist
Will is a Marketing and Sales Specialist for D4's Special Projects Team. After graduating high school, Will went to study at Feather River College in Quincy, California and received both Associates of Arts Science and Associate of Science Transfer degrees.

After FRC, he continued his business education in Torino, Italy at the School of Business Administration, of the University of Torino. After leaving Italy, he transferred to the University of Nevada, Reno where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing in 2019.

Will’s free time outside of work is primarily spent recreating outdoors. During the summertime, he enjoys fishing, backpacking, and boating with friends in the Sierra Nevada mountain range. His fall and winter months are normally spent hunting and skiing in various parts of the Western U.S.

If the song “Apple Bottom Jeans” by T-Pain is being played and Will is present, he will surely bust a move on the dance floor.

James Martineau

  • jobtitle: Buyer & Operations Associate
James is a Buyer & Operations Associate on D4's Special Projects Team. He served in the United States Army from 2008 through 2014. He attended the University of Nevada, Reno where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and recently received his Master of Arts in History at Southern New Hampshire University.  

James considers himself a music and film critic and enjoys traveling and honing in his target shooting skills at the gun range.

Brandon Wenschlag

  • jobtitle: Curator and Operations Associate
Brandon is a Curator and Operations Associate on D4's Special Projects Team. He was born and raised in Colorado Springs, Brandon moved to Reno in 2008. After graduating high school in 2011, he worked as a ride-along for a truck driver, traveling the country.
In 2014 Brandon started attending college at Truckee Meadows Community College and eventually got his Associate of Arts in History. After TMCC, he transferred to the University of Nevada-Reno where he majored in History and minored in Archeology.

Brandon spent a semester studying abroad in Viterbo, Italy at Università degli Studi della Tuscia. He traveled across Europe and even made his way to Israel and Malta. In 2018, Brandon graduated from UNR and helped his family business for a year.

Ryan Lawrence

  • jobtitle: Curator and Operations Associate
Ryan is an associate and curator to our Special Project’s Team. Born and raised in Reno, Ryan graduated from the Reynold's School of Journalism at the University of Nevada, Reno in 2018. On Saturdays in the Fall, Ryan enjoys spending time at Mackay Stadium cheering on the Wolf Pack. He has not missed a home game since 2009* (in games where fans were allowed). In the summer, Ryan enjoys heading up to Lake Tahoe with his wife, Lexi, and spending a day at Sand Harbor. 

Ryan can sit down and have a conversation about most topics from movies to what toppings do and don't belong on pizza (looking at you pineapple). He loves all sports and doing his best to stay active. He believes that any day where you don't leave the house is a waste of a day.
