D4 Trendspotter: 2017 Logo Trends

How do you design a logo to be timeless and trendy? It is important to keep an eye on what the trends are while maintaining focus on the brand, company culture and strengths you are trying to depict. Our logo designers always have their finger on the pulse of what the trends are, but they do not let that detract from your company and your goals. It takes a balance of beautiful design and well thought out strategy to create a truly remarkable logo. Here are our top 5 trends for 2017 logo design.

#1: Minimalist Design

We have seen a continuous shift in many logo designs to a more minimal look. Minimalist design uses pared down elements to create clean, simple and effective design. An example of us designing a logo with minimalist design is for the Nevada Association of Employers. When designing this logo, we wanted to use simple text with an emblem of the state to show right away that it is a professional Nevada organization. Straightforward.

#2: Negative Space

Using negative space is a great way to catch your audience’s attention and imagination. It cues the audience into a deeper meaning and gives a creative, intelligent vibe that is perfect if your audience has a soft spot for wit. This was the case with Sierra Business Research, who thrived on digging deeper, as did their clientele.

#3: Vintage Images

Vintage images evoke nostalgia, and convey a sense of credibility. For businesses who provide a product or service that requires a lot of trust, establishing credibility is crucial. Sierra Brass Exchange requires trust, customers ship their brass to Sierra Brass Exchange and then receive a check for it after the brass is received and appraised. For this reason, we decided to go with a vintage, nostalgic feeling logo design.

#4: Simple Color Schemes

Simplifying a color scheme really allows those specific colors to shine and make a statement. For Gezelin & Associates, a local Reno law firm, we designed a logo with a simple, natural color scheme to place emphasis on the type of law John Gezelin has practiced for over 25 years.

#5: Hand-Drawn

Hand-drawn logos can be the most difficult to create, so why design them? A hand-drawn logo is fun, fresh and convey a “down to earth” feeling. Bit Replay is a website that sells gently used, vintage video games. A fun, creative and “down to earth” logo was exactly the right vibe for them and their audience. Every business deserves a spectacular logo design that enhances and reiterates their brand.
