Tips on Planning Your 2017 Marketing Budget

Now that 2017 is here (yay!) hopefully you have thought about how you will be spending your 2017 marketing budget.  A solid budget will help you understand your goals for the year, make sure you don’t overspend, and track what had the best return on your investment. Here are our 3 tips on getting the most out of your budget this year.

#1: Organize Your Budget Into Categories

All of the different channels you use should have their own category in your marketing budget. these categories can be as broad or specific as you prefer, as long as you remain consistent year-over-year. For example, Search Engine Optimization can be its own category, or it can go under Digital Marketing along with Content Marketing, Email Marketing & Social Media Marketing.

#2: Have Your Goals For The Year In Mind

Don’t just copy what you did last year. Keep in mind what your goals are and focus on a few key areas. You have better chances of getting a good return on your investment if you commit fully to a few marketing channels, rather than spreading your money out and not getting anything done effectively. Are you trying to get more millennials as customers? Focus on digital marketing, content marketing and social media. Are you trying to get more out of your existing customers? Focus on email marketing strategies and loyalty programs. Tailor your budget to your objectives.

#3: Stay On Top Of The Trends

It is always important to stay on top of marketing trends, even if they may not be right for you right now. You might discover something you haven’t considered and would be worth trying, you might decide that it isn’t right for you, but be aware of trends and find out if they fit your goals.
